Volunteering

We welcome volunteers from all walks of life and all knowledge levels. You don’t have to be an environmental expert to participate – you just have to have passion for the cause. Give one or 100 hours – we can always use extra hands. Time commitment varies by event and is flexible.

Examples of volunteer opportunities include:

• Beach cleanups: Help ALO keep our beaches clean by joining hundreds of other volunteers to pick up trash at numerous different locations on LBI!
• Third party events: Set up ALO information/merchandise table and chat with the public, and enjoy hanging with other environmentally minded people!
• Summer programs: Check in attendees, handle donations and t-shirt purchases, keep accurate record of event all while hanging out on the bay or beach on LBI.
• Headquarters: Help set up supplies for our summer programs, answer phones, chat with visitors, or simply hang out with our executive director at our office at 1101 Central Avenue in Ship Bottom.
• Outside organizations: On occasion, ALO will assist other organizations with volunteers. This includes helping with beach cleanups with other organizations or assisting the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science with Project Terrapin.

Experts
If you are a specialist or professional in the environmental field, volunteer to teach us a thing or two! The ALO board of trustees is always looking to advance their knowledge base and improve an existing program with professional expertise. We look for your input on creating new programs as well. In particular ALO calls for:

• Grant writers
• Teachers
• Marine scientists & researchers
• PR & event specialists
