The Lighthouse
of Sipadan is off the east coast of the State of Sabah, Malaysia
on the Island of Borneo, country of Eastern Malaysia. The island
is so small that walking around takes 25 minutes at a normal
pace.
Sipadan Island is a tiny
speck of land rising from a volcanic pinnacle from the bottom
of the ocean in the Sulawesi Sea (Celebes). It is surrounded
by deep water (2000 feet on the West and 3000 feet on the East side) in the shape
of a drop off wall 10 to 15 meters off shore. That means you
walk out 40 feet and you're in 2000 feet of water!
- The island is covered
with thick jungle and has a narrow strip of sand near the water. Huts and cabins
(very humble accommodations) are available near the shore for
divers. Their are five dive operations on the island.
