ALO's Letter to the Beach Haven Times in Opposition to the Dumping at the Historic Areas Remediation Site (HARS)

To the Beach Haven Times Editor

We are vehemently opposed to the decision allowing Refined Sugars, Inc. to dump contaminated mud in the Historic Area Remediation Site. It is another tremendous blow to the environment that nearly 50,000 thousand tons of the permitted 60,000 tons exceed the current guidelines for PCB contamination. Any progress that has been made at capping the HARS will now be polluted by Refined Sugars.

PLEASE, this must be the last of the toxic barges. We urge that the present decision for Refined Sugars Inc. as well as any additional " Grandfathered Permits" which will allow the dumping of contaminated sediments for capping at HARS be reconsidered and stopped..

Especially since treatment technologies exist to render it safe and useful for upland site redemption, there is no reason that ocean dumping must continue to occur. While dumping may seem an easy solution with less financial expense, It jeopardizes the health of the marine environment and the in affect the planet as a whole. The practice and precedent MUST STOP while we still have something left to protect.

We ask that all concerned citizens contact their representatives in Congress and express their views as well.

Sincerely,

President. Board of Directors
