Become an ALO Intern

ALO is looking for Interns to further our Mission in 2008
The
Alliance for a Living Ocean, located on Long Beach Island, is seeking
applicants for summer (June through mid August) 2008 internships working with
our summer education programs and presentations. This is not a paid
position.
Program Description
The
Environmental Education Internship is an exciting opportunity for individuals who
are interested in increasing their experience and knowledge of ocean and bay
ecology and environmental education. Interns will be responsible for
assisting with our summer education programs and presentations. Interns
will also assist with our education festival, the FantaSea Festival. The summer
education programs consist of:

Stories By The Sea – a
story/activity hour for children ages 3 to 7.
Children are read an educational story and then perform an activity or
make a craft relating to the story.

Seining Days –
seining activities with discussion of the Barnegat Bay Watershed and
identification of what is found while seining.
·
Eco-Tours of a Barrier Island – a
guided environmental tour of Long Beach Island aboard a tour bus pointing out
environmentally sensitive areas, discussion of development and non-point source
pollution is included.
·
Beach Walks –
interpretive beach walks teaching about southern New Jersey’s coastal
ecosystem, including discussion and identification of natural and unnatural
beach finds.
·
Inlet Lore – an
educational program about Barnegat Lighthouse State Park and the coastal
ecology of the area including Barnegat Inlet.
Intern Responsibilities and Qualifications
The
internship is open to all applicants at least 18 years of age or older, with an
avid interest in environmental education or a related field. The intern
must provide their own transportation to/from all programs and activities. All
programs and activities are held within Southern Ocean County.
If
the intern intends to receive college or university credit for their
internship, they are responsible for making all arrangements with their
educational institution.
Interns
must be able to work for approximately 3 months, at least 4 hours per week.
Successful
applicants should have experience working with children and the general public;
have excellent communication and public speaking skills; be self-motivated and
creative; flexible and have general knowledge of environmental education
principles.
