Garbage

What you can do when it comes to litter and garbage

  • REDUCE – Use less – less plastic, less packaging, less water, less energy; buy product that you can reuse instead of throw out.
  • REUSE – bottles, cups, containers, bags, diapers, towels, napkins and so on.
  • RECYCLE – And purchase products made from recycled materials. Recycling options vary by location, but special programs run by schools, environmental groups, and corporations exist for specific items. There is a recycling program for nearly everything!
  • DONATE, BARTER, TRADE – instead of throwing it out. Somebody can probably use it.
  • PUT A LID ON IT. – Uncovered garbage cans lead to trash in the streets. If it’s in the street, it will be in the ocean.
  • Adopt-a-beach, Adopt-a-storm drain
  • Take part in the annual ALO Earth Day cleanup
  • Take part in the International Coastal Cleanup

What ALO has done

  • 17 years and counting of Earth Day cleanups.
  • Coordination locally of the global International Coastal Cleanup.
  • Execute the “adopt-a-storm-drain” and “adopt-a-beach” programs.
  • Educated thousands of people about the hazards of debris on marine and human life.
  • Collected TENS OF THOUSANDS of plastic caps for recycling.
